Peninsula Shire

What would Peninsula Council do?

Housing

More than any other council document, the Council's Local Housing Strategy is likely to determine the quality of life on the Peninsula and the nature and quality of the Peninsula as a community.

A primary purpose of Peninsula Council's housing policy and strategy would be to protect and enhance these.

The council would support medium-density development that preserves spacious neighbourhoods, with increased tree canopy and measures to reduce the Peninsula's heat island effect.

Peninsula Council's Housing Strategy would be a meaningful document which has clear practical consequences, focused on community well-being.

The housing policy would focus on meeting the needs of its current community as its priority, over providing housing for others.

In particular, it would include policies to meet the local demand for low-cost housing by both owner-occupiers and renters.

It would define the council processes and standards, including the planning provisions, needed to achieve its objectives.
